International Young Members Committee (IYYMC) have started the IMechE Student Chapter of the Year Award, which recognises the efforts of the IMechE Student Chapters.
The competition had entries from 10 South East Asia Student Chapters, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia submitted their annual reports for 2021 to be in the running for the Best Student Chapter (SC) prizes.
As a recap, the champions of 2021 Student Chapter of the Year Award are as follows:
Winner: Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) Student Chapter
Runner-up: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Student Chapter
Ir Dr Chua Yaw Long, Chair, SEA Region, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (Department of Mechanical Engineering UNITEN), Ir Dr Steven Hoo, SEA Region Young Member Representative (Mechanical Engineering, Herriot Watt University), Ts Dr Meenaloshini A/P Satgunam, IMechE UNITEN Academic Liaison officer, Department of Mechanical Engineering, UNITEN, Ms Pooi Ying Choong, Young Member Section Chair, IMechE Malaysia Branch and UNITEN Student Chapter members attended the award ceremony.
The award ceremony was also endorsed and attended by officers of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), namely Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Deputy Dean (Student Development and Industrial Training), Ts Dr Yeo Wei Hong, Head of Department, Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Dr Rubina Bahar, (Society adviser for UTAR IMechE SC and Academic Liaison Officer) Dr Rubina Bahar, (Society adviser for UTAR IMechE SC and Academic Liaison Officer), Ms Lee Jia Yee, Alumni, Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.
We hope the recognition to the winners of 2021 Student Chapter of the Year Award set an example to the other student chapters to strive and build a better IMechE presence and community.
