Innovative aerospace projects including concepts for efficient, next-generation engines could benefit from a share of £150m this year.
The Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI), Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Innovate UK will allocate the money as part of a £3.9bn joint investment between the government and industry, aimed at promoting competition and innovation in the aerospace sector.
UK-based organisations can submit ideas for projects that fit within the ATI’s strategy, with criteria including strengthening the UK’s capability in whole-aircraft design and system integration for future generations, and developing advanced, connected technologies.
Other aims include making the UK a global leader in the development of large complex structures, particularly wings, and creating more efficient, next-generation propulsion technologies, especially large turbofans.
Successful projects must provide value for money, create benefits in jobs and training, and have clear potential within the industry.
The investment could cover up to 70% of project costs.
