Institution News Team

Here’s what you can expect from May’s seminar for all engineers involved in powertrain technologies.

Taking place every two years and returning to an in-person format since 2018, High Performance Powertrains 2022 will take place at the Silverstone Wing on 10 May 2022.

Fitting for an event concerning vehicle powertrains for motorsport and high-performance applications, the home of British motorsport is the perfect venue for the specialised powertrain engineering community in person to meet, network, discuss common issues and learn about recent advances from their peers.

With high performance vehicles used as a test-bed for cutting-edge propulsion technology, the seminar continues to be a key event for vehicle engineers across all industries to get a glimpse of the future of transport technologies.

This year’s agenda features technical presentations, case study examples and lessons learned covering all powertrain types, the development of sustainable fuels, the successful application of hydrogen, the results from hybrid powertrain development and much more; here’s an overview of some of the presentations this year:

  • Coryton and Cosworth will discuss recent findings with sustainable fuels, with insights from the Dakar rally and lessons learned in the design of a high performance road car engine
  • MAHLE Powertrain, Viritech and Briggs Automotive Company will outline the latest developments with ICE and fuel cell systems, including considerations for hydrogen systems and techniques for reduced emissions
  • Ariel Motor, M-Sport and McLaren Automotive will present case studies and the achievements of recent hybrid powertrain projects, including the system used for WRC
  • Finally, Williams Advanced Engineering and McLaren Applied outline the latest advancements in electric powertrains, including new tools for optimisation and technical details of McLaren's new 800v inverter

"if you’re in the high performance space, it makes sense to keep your finger on the pulse of what’s latest and greatest. You never know what new ideas might come to you when you hear from other minds in industry."
Joe Jones, Williams Advanced Engineering
