A day of innovation, real-world problem solving, and future-ready engineers
Organised by the IMechE UAE Branch in collaboration with the University of Bolton Student Chapter, the competition challenged participants across four engineering disciplines: mechanical design, poster presentation, technical delivery, and peer review. This multidisciplinary format reflects real-world engineering scenarios, encouraging students to integrate theory, creativity, and communication.
Engineering that works—and repeats
The "Repeatable Vehicle" brief demanded more than creativity—it required engineering rigour. Teams designed, built, and demonstrated mechanical systems capable of repeatable motion, highlighting critical competencies in mechanical reliability, kinematics, materials selection, and tolerancing.
The competition also placed emphasis on documentation and communication, with teams required to justify design decisions through technical posters and presentations—a core skill for engineers working in cross-functional teams or client-facing roles.
Top teams and awards

After a day of intense competition and collaboration, the following teams were recognised:
1st Prize (AED 1,000): Team Palindrome, University of Bolton – RAK Campus
2nd Prize (AED 500): Team Rossa, Manipal Academy of Higher Education – Dubai
Best Poster: Team Rossa, Manipal Academy of Higher Education – Dubai
Best Presentation: Team Circuit, University of Bolton – RAK
These accolades recognise not just clever engineering but also the clarity and confidence with which ideas were communicated—skills essential for success in modern engineering careers.
Judging panel with industry insight
A panel of seasoned engineers and industry leaders brought deep technical insight to the event. Judges included: Mohammed Ibrahim, Al NakhiFaisal Saeed, Mohammed Shafique, Haruki Komatsu and Mohammad Najeeb – EBARA Pumps Middle East.
Their input ensured rigorous assessment, reflecting both academic and industrial standards.
Behind the scenes: coordination excellence
Smooth event delivery was thanks to a well-coordinated team. Mr. Jaimon Dennis Quadros opened the event, while Mr. Rahul Murikkoli orchestrated proceedings throughout the day. Dr. Mohammed Nadeem offered a warm closing with a heartfelt vote of thanks. Special credit goes to Mr. Faisal Saeed and Mr. Murikkoli for their dedication to the challenge’s success.
Engineering impact and future outlook

The IMechE Design Challenge is more than a competition—it's a launchpad for future engineers. By simulating real-world constraints and team-based problem-solving, the challenge builds the practical, analytical, and collaborative skills that today’s engineering world demands. With growing participation across the UAE, the IMechE UAE Branch looks forward to expanding the Challenge in 2026—engaging even more institutions, mentors, and future innovators.
