Qualifications Requiring Review

Many Members have qualifications which were not originally accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. If your qualification is not accredited, or you have no formal qualifications, a committee of Members can review your academic achievements for either CEng or IEng registration, and either accept them as they are or recommend further study to meet the criteria.

Guidance notes for applicants

Who should complete this form:

  • Individuals with UK Engineering degrees not accredited by the Engineering Council
  • Individuals with overseas qualifications not recognised by the Washington and Sydney Accords
  • Individuals with pre-degree qualifications (HND/HNC) or no formal qualifications

If any of the categories above are relevant to you, you can apply for review when you graduate or when you apply to become a Member. We would advise that any potential Members complete the review as soon as possible, in case any additional study is required.

When making a final decision, the committee will take into account information including the content of your course and accreditation by other professional bodies. All applicants who undertake academic review will be considered against current criteria, and will be advised whether further study or a Technical Report is necessary.
