Engineering in Medicine and Health
Chairman's note
2009 saw the Medical Engineering Division expanded to become the Engineering in Medicine and Health Division (EMHD). This demonstrates our desire to expand our remit into areas such as healthy ageing and sports and wellbeing as well as strengthen the health and wellbeing aspects of our traditional strengths. The industrial and demographic drivers for this change are clear to all. We have now successfully run events in these new areas and will seek to continue this in the year to come. This technical programme for the coming year now covers the full range of this extended remit.
The main aims of the EMHD are to become the natural home for all engaged in careers in Engineering in Medicine and Health and in so doing raise the profile of Medical Engineering and the Health Care industry both nationally internationally. We seek to provide a focus for technology transfer, the exchange of information and ideas, and the dissemination of best engineering practice in the field of Engineering in Medicine and Health and to promote Engineering in Medicine and Health as a career, and the continuing professional development of engineers working in this broad area.
Professor Anthony M J Bull
Chairman

Welcome
The EMHD believe we can do more to help people live healthy active lives, and we are therefore furthering the work in ageing, food and water, sports and buildings' environment, as well as continuing our current successes, among which are robotic surgery, orthopaedics and incontinence technology.
