Energy, Environment and Sustainability
About the Group
The Energy, Environment and Sustainability Group (EESG) evolved from part of the Environmental and Safety Engineering Group in 2001 and incorporates the former Energy Committee and Pollution Prevention technical activity committee.
The Group is represented by a Board of 18 members who have expertise in each of the three areas and meets four times a year. It serves the wider membership by organising relevant seminars and conferences and represents members’ views in the responses it gives to Government consultation papers; additionally some Board members regularly attend the meetings of national and international committees to raise the profile of energy, environment and sustainability issues.

In the search for reliable and sustainable fuels, is it time to move energy recovery up the waste hierarchy? Energy from waste can provide a very substantial contribution to reaching the Government’s 2020 renewable energy targets. With just over 100 months until these targets come into force, recovered energy should be seen as an important investment in our future – not just an alternative to landfill.
