YOUNG MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2017

Do you know a young member who volunteers in their spare time for the Institution or who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the engineering profession?

This year the Young Members Board (YMB) will be awarding three individual awards for outstanding contribution in the following categories:

The Young Member Visionary award will be presented to a member whose application demonstrates all-round excellence both in engineering and in volunteering. The winner of this award will also be given the recognition of being the Institution’s Young Member Visionary.

Prize

The overall young member of the year will receive the recognition of being the Institution’s Young Member Visionary and will be given the opportunity to engage closely with the Young Members Board over the year. The winner will receive a certificate and plaque.

If based in the UK, the Young Member Visionary will also receive:

  • A place at the Essential Management Skills conference in spring 2018
  • Two tickets to the Institution’s 2017 Annual Dinner
  • One meeting with the President and one attendance at a Presentational Visit near to the locality of the winner (Feb-Sep 2018).

If based in the outside of the UK, the Young Member Visionary will also receive:

  • Two tickets to a Regional Annual Dinner or Institution event near to the locality of the winner
  • Receive two skype calls with the President (Feb-Sep 2018).

To Enter

Who can enter?

All entrants must be Young Members of the Institution. A Young Member is any Affiliate, Associate or Member who has achieved professional registration within the last 10 years.

Any Young Member can be nominated or may self-nominate for one or several of the awards and everyone who applies in any category will automatically be considered for the Young Member Visionary Award.

How to enter

The deadline for entries is 23 October 2017.

Complete the relevant nomination form for the category; see each award description and entry guidance notes.

All entries for IMechE Volunteer of the Year and Developing Engineer of the Year will be considered for the overall young member of the year, the Young Member Visionary.

If you are a young member and would like to apply for the Young Member Visionary award but you don’t fit into either of these categories, e.g. if you are an undergraduate student or an apprentice, you should complete the Young Member Visionary nomination form and look to demonstrate the same criteria in your own specific context.

Award Descriptions

IMechE Volunteer of the Year

Much of what the IMechE does wouldn’t be possible or just wouldn’t happen without the support of committed and enthusiastic volunteers. This award looks to recognise the efforts of volunteers who have made a significant contribution (usually over a number of years) towards sustaining and developing all the different things that the IMechE does.

Developing Engineer of the Year

This award is targeted at young members who have already completed engineering qualifications (i.e. those who have completed University or finished their apprenticeships) and are now high achievers and great role models in a professional working context in industry.

Young Member Visionary

It is expected that the winner of this award will demonstrate both engineering and volunteering excellence.
