Support Network is the personal advice service and financial benevolent fund for members (and former members) of the Institution and their families. All of our services are free for you and your family to use as a benefit of your membership of the Institution. Members, partners and dependants are all eligible to contact the Support Network directly.
We provide financial support and work with specialist agencies to provide additional services.
As our support attaches to membership, as far as possible, all services are available on an international basis. If we cannot provide a solution ourselves, we will endeavour to work with others who can.
We would therefore encourage all members and dependants to think of us as a ‘first point of contact’ when a helping hand is required.
We can provide practical help with:
- EMPLOYMENT COACHING: to give you a head start and/or refresher with job seeking skills including CV preparation, making applications and interview technique
- STUDENT GRANTS: up to £1K per academic year for eligible undergraduates
- DEBT ADVICE: self-help online 24/7 advice and/or telephone based assistance
- MONEY MANAGEMENT AND BUDGETING HELP: expert advice to help you cope with low, or fixed incomes, and/or changes in your financial circumstances
- FINANCIAL SUPPORT: ‘breathing space’ and top up support provided during times of need
- BEFRIENDING: telephone support to combat social isolation and/or maintain links between retired mechanical engineers
- COUNSELLING: we can provide telephone counselling, and/or help you to find and afford online and/or face-to-face counselling in your local area
- CARE AND DEMENTIA SUPPORT: specialist support and advice in respect of sourcing and financing care services to help you navigate this complex area on behalf of others
- GENERALIST INFORMATION AND ADVICE: dedicated advice lines for everyday problems
- LEGAL ADVICE: specialist advice for legal problems and cases across all UK jurisdictions
- PURPOSE SPECIFIC FINANCE: to ease the costs of specific life stages and/or situations – from winter warmth to new baby grants – we are here to help you.
