Qualification and Membership Board Role

The role of the Qualification and Membership Board (QMB) is to:

1 To provide leadership to the profession and society at large in promoting and delivering professional development associated with mechanical engineering and to make full use of collaboration with other bodies, domestic and international.

2 To formulate and propose to the Trustee Board, then implement, the Institution's policy, across the broad range of Professional Development, Qualifications and Membership.

The Committee is made up of the Chairs of the five delegated authority Committees plus other Working Groups who collectively take responsibility for various aspects of the IMechE’s membership, registration and accreditation activities, under the provisions of our Engineering Council licence. Other members are co-opted for specialist advice or to represent other relevant IMechE groups.

The Young Member’s Board (YMB) representative’s role will be to ensure that the views and opinions of the YMB are properly voiced and to raise any queries or concerns relating to issues of policy which may have a wider reaching impact across other boards.
