Cybersecurity is an increasingly important consideration for engineers who have projects which interface with operational technology systems. As these systems becomes more connected, legislation such as the NIS Regulations and the Cyber Resilience Bill, places growing obligations on operators and their supply chains to manage cybersecurity risk effectively.

For engineers working with or around OT systems, this creates a practical challenge. Cybersecurity responsibilities within engineering projects are often unclear, but the risk of getting it wrong can be financially and compliance significant. Engineers increasingly need the knowledge to ask the right questions, make informed decisions, and deliver better outcomes on the projects they lead. 

This one-day course gives engineers the practical knowledge and confidence to address OT cybersecurity effectively in their own context. By attending, delegates will develop the confidence to engage meaningfully with cyber security specialists, identify risks relevant to their projects, and ensure cyber security is considered at the right stages of the engineering lifecycle.   

 This course will help you address the engineering challenges you face in mitigating vulnerabilities and threats, including those seen in high-profile attacks such as Stuxnet, the Colonial Pipeline Ransomware Attack, and the Ukraine Power Grid. Learning is then embedded throughout the day through live roleplay exercises, ensuring engineers leave with practical, applicable knowledge they can implement directly in their work. 

When engineers understand requirements and security obligations, organisations are better equipped to manage risk proactively, meet the regulatory requirements, and build long-term resilience into the systems and projects they deliver.

  • Alex Bishop

    Alex Bishop is the OT Cyber Security Lead at Tilt Consulting, specialising in safety critical systems with a focus on rail. With extensive experience across complex UK and international projects, his training approach focuses on the practical implementation of processes and the “how” of meeting standards, equipping participants to apply security and safety engineering principles effectively within their own organisations. He holds a Master’s degree in Safety Critical Systems Engineering from the University of York.
