The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) has announced a major new partnership with the Gene Haas Foundation to help inspire and develop the next generation of engineers, supporting more university teams to compete in Europe's leading student engineering competition, Formula Student.
The Gene Haas Foundation, which invests in education and workforce development across manufacturing, engineering and technical industries, provides scholarships, grants and industry partnerships that equip young people with the skills and experience needed for successful engineering careers. Last week, the Early Careers Team from TGR Haas F1 team met many of the 2,500 students from 120 universities taking part in this year’s IMechE Formula Student onsite at Silverstone. Claire Banner, Head of HR Legal (UK) and Talent Management at TGR Haas F1 Team said:
"If we want to develop the engineers who will power the next generation of innovation, we have to engage with young people early and give them opportunities to apply what they learn in real engineering environments. Formula Student does exactly that. It gives students invaluable hands-on experience, develops the technical and teamwork skills that industry is looking for, and helps bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace. We're proud to support a competition that is inspiring and developing the future talent our industry depends on."
Joyce Achampong, Senior Leadership Lead for the Formula Student competition at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, added:
"We are delighted to welcome the Gene Haas Foundation as our Education Impact Partner. We share the same ambition of giving young engineers the opportunity to develop the technical skills, confidence and practical experience that employers are looking for in today’s industrial landscape. "Together, we can help remove barriers for students, inspire the next generation and strengthen the pipeline of talented engineers who will shape the future of manufacturing and technology."
Formula Student brings together thousands of aspiring engineers, many of whom go on to careers in Formula 1, motorsport, automotive, aerospace and advanced engineering.
