The Institution’s annual CPD audit for 2018 is now open and those members who have been selected to participate are getting ready to submit evidence of the CPD they have undertaken in the past 12 months.

They will have until 31 March to engage in the audit and upload their evidence for our trained assessors to then review and provide feedback.

At the Institution, the emphasis is not on achieving a set level of CPD hours or ‘points’, but approaching – and recording – CPD as an ongoing, developmental aspect of life as a professional engineer. Reflective learning also plays a bit part. Our Career Developer tool is there to help you do this.

Whether you are selected to take part in the audit or not, it is essential that all CPD is recorded and maintained as you may be selected to participate in the future. To help our members record their CPD, the Career Developer tool is an easy way of logging and reflecting on all CPD undertaken and a tool that can be accessed and updated at your convenience. If you record your CPD elsewhere, for example with your employer, you can simply upload it to the Document Vault in Career Developer as a readily accessible life-long record.

Product Development Engineer at Newcastle Innovation Centre, Balaji Aresh, has been using Career Developer for the last couple of years. He has created a simple step-by-step infographic guide on how to use it which he hopes will encourage more members to use the simplified tool.

Balaji said: “Career Developer gives me the opportunity and space to be brutally honest with my self-assessment!”

”What I like best is that it asks you to pause and conduct reflective practice upon completion of your goals - this I believe is the most important aspect of the tool and one's own CPD.”
