Helena Rivers has a masters degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Bath. Following graduation she began her professional career consulting within the nuclear industry in northern England and Scotland where she developed an interest in ventilation and building services.
She later moved into consulting for conventional building services working in London for Scott Wilson, URS then AECOM where she is a regional director and heads up the Asset Management team. She manages a team of 40 engineers and building surveyors delivering multidisciplinary design and construction projects for public sector clients.
Helena has been active in developing and maintaining the MPDS scheme and in mentoring developing engineers. She is passionate about encouraging young people into engineering and feels strongly that for the profession to perform at our best we need a good mix of engineers from all different backgrounds. Helena became a Fellow of the institution in 2016 and was elected to the trustee board in 2017. She sits on the Audit and Risk Board and is the Trustee representative in the Equality and Diversity Steering Group.
