Summary

Know and use the power of your personal brand to help develop your career

Self-marketing is important. It means knowing and promoting your own Personal Brand and using this to help you develop the career you want. We all know that self-improvement is essential and we put time and effort into it. We need to do the same with self-packaging. Yet we often shy away from that. This course will help you overcome your barriers, identify your professional or life purpose, play to your strengths, focus on the messages you want to send to the world, work on how you are perceived and help you develop a professional presence. After all, if you don’t focus on that, who will do it for you?

The difference to your interviews, presentations, relationships, networks – in other words, to how you manage your career and your success could be huge.

Who should attend?

Useful to any engineers who are questioning their next steps and working out how to achieve their career goals. Particularly aimed at developing / early career engineers who need to develop a professional presence.

The subject may be of particular importance to those companies employing a lot of “Millennials” – the generation most interested in identifying their purpose and most comfortable with building a media presence – and, if they don’t have help to do this may become disenchanted.

How will I benefit?

After the course you will be able to:
  • Understand what is meant by and the importance of personal brand
  • Identify your own personal brand – strengths, messages you send, your presence
  • Know how to leverage your personal brand
  • Use this to develop a short/medium term career plan
Contributes 7 CPD hours

There is a clear link between success and branding. We are surrounded by examples of this both positive (think Coca Cola) and negative (when a brand “drops” their spokesperson). As Tom Peters said “We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called You”.

Liz Bennett Head of Consultancy, Institution of Mechanical Engineers
