This course equips engineers and technicians with the theoretical and practical skills needed to design the main mechanical equipment used in industrial plants, including piping systems, pressure vessels, shell and tube heat exchangers, and storage tanks, applying industry-standard codes such as ASME B31, ASME VIII, TEMA and API 650.

  • Understand the scope, organisation and application of the ASME B31, ASME VIII, TEMA, and API 650 codes used in the design of mechanical equipment for industrial plants
  • Learn the fundamental design principles and calculation methods for piping systems, including thickness calculations, layout development and stress and flexibility assessment
  • Develop the ability to perform pressure vessel design calculations for internal and external pressure conditions, considering joint efficiency, vessel geometry and structural reinforcement requirements
  • Gain knowledge of shell-and-tube heat exchanger configurations, component design, tube sheet arrangements and industry-standard design practices in accordance with TEMA
  • Become familiar with the design requirements for atmospheric storage tanks, including shell, bottom, annular plate and roof design in compliance with API 650
The course trainer, Javier Tirenti, also regularly teaches API 650 & 653 – Introduction to the Design and Repair of Storage Tanks and API 510 – Pressure Vessels Inspection and Repair.
