Press releases
Manufacturing companies in the West Midlands have just six weeks to apply to take part in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Manufacturing Excellence Awards when it launches on 9 September.
Manufacturing Excellence offers companies a new online tool which provides free, immediate and targeted business advice. The West Midlands has also been chosen as one of just two UK regions to have a regional award, with the winning companies announced in December 2013.
Philippa Oldham, Head of Manufacturing at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers said:
“I would urge businesses in the West Midlands to take this opportunity to receive this free expert advice, as well as to be in with a chance of winning a prestigious Manufacturing Excellence Award.
“In a time of fierce competition in business, the expert advice provided through the Manufacturing Excellence Awards could make the difference between a company’s success and failure.
“The easy to use online assessment tool will be available for just six weeks from September 9.”
David Fox, Chairman and CEO of Power Panels, a company based in Walsall and past winner of two Manufacturing Excellence Awards, said:
“If there is one overriding lesson I’ve learned during my years in manufacturing, it is this: that survival in our business is not ours by right. Sit back for a moment to enjoy your successes to date and, lo and behold, the world has changed around you. You’ve fallen behind. Only those who are constantly seeking out new ways to make their organisations better, stronger, will stay the course.
“By entering these awards, you will be in the company of like-minded businesses whose ground-breaking ideas are helping to wipe out the boundaries of what can be achieved; who recognise the necessity to constantly improve and evolve. In other words, those who see the attainment of world class as their primary goal.
“So get involved. Be part of this. And remember: ‘world class’ is not just something others accomplish. It’s something that’s within the reach of us all.”
The Manufacturing Excellence Awards have been helping UK manufacturing companies improve for over 30 years. This year marks the launch of a new, streamlined process aimed at providing expert advice in an easier format. All companies who complete the assessment, which takes just 4 hours to complete, will receive an instantaneous report highlighting key areas for improvement. The five steps are:
1) Register online, complete the company and financial profile
2) Complete the core questions
3) Receive instant personalised feedback for your business
4) Entrants in West Midlands and Yorkshire / North East England entrants are put forward for regional awards
5) Regional celebration events where Award winners are announced
The 2013 Manufacturing Excellence Awards is run in partnership with The ERA Foundation, Lombard and WMG; it is supported by the CBI and the MTC.
