The Institution's Philippa Oldham says today's announcement will help stimulate R&D and innovation and provide stability for the industry and its supply chain.
Philippa Oldham, Head of Transport and Manufacturing at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers said in response to Government’s investment in UK aerospace manufacturing:
“We are delighted with today’s announcement of the creation of the Aerospace Technology Institute. This will not only help secure the UK’s market share by stimulating R&D and innovation but also provides the stability for the industry and its supply chain, that will lead to the creation of another 115,000 jobs.
“The UK needs to be at the forefront of technologies like renewable and intelligent passenger aeroplanes, if it is to compete with countries like the US and China.
“Today’s announcement shows commitment from the UK Government to the country’s manufacturing sector - a sector that is so critical to rebalancing our economy”
This announcement today links to the recommendations that were set out in the Institution’s 2011 Aero 2075 report.
