Vote to let the Institution hear your voice

Institution News team

Don’t forget to cast your vote in the Institution’s Trustee Board and Council elections, 2014. Vote online or by ballot by 26 May – your voice can make a difference.

The 2014 election campaign is now open for Trustee Board and Council roles. It has never been more important for Members of the Institution to have their say in the leadership of their professional body.

By voting in these annual elections, Members play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction and future governance of the Institution, through the Trustee Board. They also help to reinforce the democratic foundations of the organisation by electing members of Council.

The direction of the Institution is effectively determined by these two very influential groups of people.

Corporate Members (Chartered Engineers, Incorporated Engineers and Engineering Technicians) and Associate Members are eligible to vote. The election enables each one of these Members to have their say in who represents them, and ensure the organisation remains truly democratic. Members will be able to ensure that the person who best suits their views will be in a position of influence.

The Institution's Trustee Board and Council elections opened on 11 April, and members now have until 5pm on Monday 26 May to decide who they want to govern the Institution and make important strategic decisions over the coming year.

Patrick Kniveton, President of the Institution, reinforces the importance of voting in the elections, in order that the organisation truly reflects the broad spectrum of engineers and technicians working in the profession.

Patrick recently wrote to all Members, expressing his passionate view that the challenges facing the engineering profession make it vital to stay engaged with the leadership of this professional institution.

He said: “It has never been more important to ensure our leadership reflects the views and aspirations of our members for the future. Your vote really does count.”

He added: “Your Institution is working harder than ever to develop the next generation of engineers. We are delivering more trusted expert guidance to governments; and [raising] the profile of engineering and technology in the public eye. With over 106,000 members in over 120 countries, we have seen unprecedented growth in our membership; and are providing more support for professional development for our members than ever before.”
