In the Belgian Congo the buses were fitted with a large flywheel and at each stop there was a power coupling

Further to Williams article on flywheel energy you might be interested in my experience way back in the mid 50's.

On arriving in Léopoldville in the Belgian Congo I saw the remains of a bus system installed during the war. The buses were fitted with a large flywheel and at each stop there was a power coupling. This through an electric motor re-energised the system. It was no longer in use but I was told that during fuel shortage this propulsion system worked.
