A significant barrier to commercial deployment of automated driving systems is the validation and verification effort required to bring the technology to the road robustly. Project Certus, led by HORIBA MIRA in conjunction with Polestar, IPG Automotive, Connected Places Catapult and Coventry University, aims to reduce the test burden and time to market by using advanced sampling techniques to gain test coverage in an efficient and targeted manner, using past tests results to generate subsequent test cases iteratively.

In this lecture, novel tools and techniques under development will be presented, highlighting how they can be applied to accelerate the development and rollout of automated driving technology. This is further supported by the use of ‘multi-pillar’ testing, where simulation, real world and mixed reality testing are brought together to leverage their relative strengths.
