The Talent Retention Solution
The Institution, top engineering companies and the Government have joined forces on this tool which redeploys and recruits engineering skills around the UK.
The Talent Retention Solution (TRS) is designed for:
- Experienced professionals
- Graduates
- Apprentices
- Employers
It matches engineering or advanced manufacturing professionals looking for work with companies of all sizes which are looking for engineering or advanced manufacturing skills. The solution is free to use by individuals and SMEs, and is backed by Government, and top companies such as Airbus, Atkins, Bentley, Cobham, EADS, EDF, Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan, Rolls-Royce, Shell and Siemens.
Stephen Tetlow, Chief Executive of the Institution said: “Engineers or people working in advanced manufacturing can register on the confidential web-based system where they can be seen by potential recruiters and see vacancies by top engineering employers.”

Support Network
We are the personal advice service and financial benevolent fund for members (and former members) of the Institution and their families. We understand the financial and emotional pressures on families, caused by redundancy, unemployment, and/or debt, and that if these are being experienced for the first time, it only adds to the burden and worry, often causing stress. Consequently, we have a range of services that can help, including access to specialist agencies if you need advice:
- Apprenticeship programme: for Institution members following an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, we offer awards to ease a financial need, provide equipment or respond to challenges faced by mature apprentices or those seeking to retrain to enter the profession via this route
- Career breaks: because we understand that returning to or finding work after a career break can be a challenge, we offer practical assistance to members and their family with this transition through CV clinics, breathing space grants, counselling and employment befriending support
- Employment coaching: to give you a head start and/or refresher with job seeking skills including CV preparation, making applications and interview techniques
- Generalist information and advice: dedicated advice lines for everyday problems including issues at work
- Debt advice: if you find that ends no longer meet and/or you are starting to get behind, please see our self-help online 24/7 advice and/or telephone based assistance which will give you practical suggestions
- Temporary financial support: short-term ‘breathing space’ support can be provided during times of need to prevent things from getting worse
- Purpose specific finance: to ease the costs of specific situations which might otherwise put you in to the red – from winter warmth fuel payments to new baby grants – we are here to help you
- Counselling: if you need to talk things over, we can provide telephone counselling, or help you to find (and afford) face-to-face counselling in your local area. Online counselling is also available.
All of our services are free for you and your family to use as a benefit of your membership of the Institution. Members, partners and dependants are all eligible to contact the Support Network directly. As far as possible, all services are available on an international basis. If we cannot provide a solution ourselves, we will endeavour to work with others who can. We would therefore encourage all members and dependants to think of us as a ‘first point of contact’ to help ease you through these difficult times.
