Student Chapter launches at University of Trinidad and Tobago

Guest speakers and a presentation competition made the launch an inspiring and memorable event.


The Student Chapter launch was held on 21 November 2016 at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) Point Lisas Campus.

The event featured the first Speak Out for Engineering (SOFE) competition in the Americas Region, which involved students from the University of the West Indies and University of Trinidad and Tobago presenting their topics of interest.

Guest speakers at the launch included:

Dr Marian Watson, Associate Professor, Process Engineering
Dr Denver Cheddie, Associate Professor, Utilities Engineering Group at UTT and the facilitator for the IMechE UTT Student Chapter;  
William Hesser, IMechE Americas Region Young Member Representative;
Dr Solange Kelly, Assistant Professor at the University of Trinidad and Tobago; 
Sean Ocho, SOFE Coordinator.

The guest speakers each gave inspirational and motivational speeches to the audience based on their work and life experiences.

The committee members of the newly formed UTT Student Chapter are:

Morgan Blackman, Chairman
Andy Tonge, Vice chairman
Shenelle Hector, Secretary
Kailun Tang, Treasurer
Chanon Arthur, Press Officer

The Year two representative is Reshana Lutchman and Year three representative is Jason Girdhrie.
