The HQ Programme was established to address the urgent challenges facing IMechE’s historic headquarters at Birdcage Walk. The Programme is now progressing through the shortlisting stage to identify the best future option for the building.

Guided by the HQ Sponsor Board, it continues to ensure no sale, lease, or mortgage will occur without further member approval. The goal remains to secure a sustainable future for the headquarters while protecting the Institution’s assets and supporting its long-term mission.

We’re hosting webinars to give you more information about the HQ Programme shortlisting process – taking the long list down to five shortlisted options.

We held two webinars on the HQ Programme shortlisting process on 15 May 2025. Recordings and a summary of the Q&A will be available here shortly.

Members can still register for the final webinar in the shortlisting series, taking place on 21 May 2025.

Wednesday 21 May

12:00 BST - Register

Each session will explain the methodology, criteria, and reasoning behind the decisions made at every stage. You’ll hear a clear breakdown of the options considered, and why certain routes were taken forward while others were not.

The format includes a 20-minute presentation, followed by an extended Q&A session – giving you the opportunity to ask questions directly and hear insights from the panel.

Whether you’re seeking clarity, greater context, or simply want to stay informed, these webinars are open to all members and staff and designed to be accessible, informative, and transparent.
