An engineering company based in the North East is to recruit 200 workers after clinching a £50 million contract with one of Russia's leading carmakers.
GT Group, of Peterlee, County Durham, is to supply exhaust gas control systems for a new range of heavy-duty diesel engines to GAZ Group in Russia.
The deal, along with other contract wins, will see GT increase its workforce from 300 to 500 over the next three years.
GT Group chairman Geoff Turnbull said: “The contract will cement our rapid growth and reputation as one of the principal suppliers of engine brakes and exhaust gas control systems for the heavy-duty diesel engine markets.
“It will also help GT Group achieve its plan to create an additional 200 jobs during the next three years. These will cover a range of disciplines, focusing on research, design, manufacture and highly-skilled engineers.”
GT Group has worked for the past four years with GAZ, Russia's largest manufacturer of light commercial vehicles, trucks, buses, cars, diesel engines, powertrain components and road construction equipment. The new contract will comprise 100,000 exhaust gas control systems a year at full production.
Having worked with GAZ on Euro 3 standard engines, GT will help GAZ produce a new engine meeting the latest Euro 4 and Euro 5 emissions standards. The engines will be produced at its manufacturing facility in Yaroslavl, in the central western part of Russia. The plant is due to open in September.
Turnbull added: “Our primary business objective is to meet the demands of vehicle manufacturers through the quality of our products and our extensive research and development capabilities.
“GT Group continually strives to improve the efficiency and performance of its products to ensure they deliver the solutions required by the latest and future generation of engines.”
