In November 2017, IMechE Student Chapter of the University of The West Indies (UWI) played host for “Rev Limit”, a technical car show event for students and professional engineers.

Aiming to inspire the next generation of student engineers, the show created a platform for them to meet experienced engineers in the automotive industry in Trinidad and Tobago. The hosts, the Student Chapter, created this very successful event, getting involvement from all stakeholders.

Vehicles from several disciplines of motorsports such as rally, circuit, and drag racing were on show,. The event also featured many high-performance road cars, including a Ferrari F430, Mazda Rx7 and Subaru WRX STI.

Throughout the course of the day, students had the opportunity to meet professionals from Valvoline, RaceLab Fuels, Trinidad and Tobago Rally Club (TTRC), drivers talking to them about everything from on-track experiences and performance of the cars, to career prospects upon completion of their degrees. The Student Chapter was supported by members of the academic staff including Professor Boppana Chowdary, Head of Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and Lecturers, Drs. Jacqueline Bridge, Graham King, and Chris Maharaj.

Special thanks must be given to IMechE for its sponsorship, IMechE Pan-Caribbean Group Chair and Young Members Representative, Dr. Chris Maharaj and Mr Sean Ocho respectively, for their guidance on the event and to the featured guests who contributed significantly to the success of the event; without their support this event would not have been possible.
