Institution News Team
The Institution is delighted to invite new and returning teams to join this year’s Challenge to win the title and £2,000 prize.
Each year, the Apprentice Automation Challenge throws down the gauntlet for teams of apprentices from businesses, colleges and training providers of engineering and manufacturing technologies from UK and overseas to register a team.
In line with the Institution’s core objective to develop the next generation of engineering talent, the Challenge provides the unique opportunity for apprentices to learn and develop new skills and practical abilities on a real-world project.
"Every year the apprentice teams of the Home Automation Challenge never cease to impress,” commented Jason Yearsley, Chair of the Apprentice Automation Challenge. “Their hard work and ingenuity shines through and the quality of the products produced improves year on year. Apprentices of today are critical for the future of manufacturing and engineering and the Challenge demonstrates that the future is in great hands."
The objective for apprentices is simple: to design and manufacture a product that automates a task in the home or garden. It could be a device to help get you out of bed in the morning or it could be something to make an otherwise boring task easier and quicker to do - the sky is the limit!
The prototypes will be judged at a finals event in July and the new champions crowned, with Team Motus from Leonardo claiming victory last year by impressing the judges with their home lighting product for seniors.
For all teams of apprentices looking for more information on how to get involved, visit the Apprentice Automation Challenge website or contact the team.
