Nominate someone for the Mensforth Manufacturing Gold Medal

PE

Put forward an engineer or technician to celebrate their contribution to your company or industry

Who do you think has made an impact in modern day manufacturing?

If you work with an engineer or technician who has made considerable contributions to your company or the manufacturing industry, there is a way to show them your appreciation. Nominate them for the Mensforth Manufacturing Gold Medal.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is one of the world’s largest professional engineering institutions, with a prestigious awards and scholarships programme. Within it is the Mensforth Manufacturing Gold Medal, awarded to individuals who have made major and distinguished contributions  in the manufacturing sector.

Put forward your colleague and if selected, they  will be celebrated at our annual IET Achievement Awards ceremony where they will be presented with their medal.  They will also have the opportunity to present on a manufacturing topic at our next Viscount Nuffield/Mensforth Lecture.

Not least, they will join the incredible list of Medal winners. All have been leaders and innovators in manufacturing, in the same spirit of the man the Medal is named after, Sir Eric Mensforth.

Mensforth was a key player in British aircraft manufacturing, particularly in developing the British helicopter. He was Managing Director at Westlands Aircraft which, under his leadership, became the foremost manufacturer of spitfires.

Not content with producing only spitfires, Mensforth used his contacts in the USA to bring in American designs of helicopters. These designs proved more effective than British designs by rival companies - so Westlands Aircraft soon became known as the only substantial British manufacturer of military helicopters.

Mensforth and his namesake Medal represent initiative and achievement in manufacturing and we are looking for a candidate who fulfils this criteria. You don’t have to be an IET member to nominate or be nominated for this award which is open to nominees of all nationalities.

Tell us who deserves to be next in line for the Mensforth Manufacturing Gold Medal or to nominate for any of the other medals please visit the IET website today: www.iet.org/achieve

Deadline for nominations is the 27 May 2016.
