New Thermal Imaging Camera is providing key temperature measurement information from the inside of a hot furnace.

The new NIR Borescope is a radiometric thermal imaging camera, which produces high definition (656 x 494 pixels) thermal images, by viewing directly inside the furnace (borescope). The camera can measure temperatures in the range 600 to 1800°C (1112 to 3272°F) and is suitable for a wide range of furnace applications.

The key applications for this new product include temperature profiling inside Glass Melt Tanks, Reformer Tube Furnaces, Reheat Furnaces and Cement Kilns.

The new NIR Borescope installs into the furnace with only a small opening in the outer refractory wall, giving a precise, continuous measurement of the internal temperature profile. Fixed measurement points provide continuity and integral trending information for process control, provided by the dedicated software.

The NIR-Borescope has a 44° or 90° viewing angle, in order to maximise the area viewed, through this small opening. Normally plant operators have to cut large openings in the refractory to enable viewing of the critical area.

The NIR-Borescope offers significant advantages over some of the traditional methods of furnace monitoring including Visual Inspection (can take hours to complete and isn’t continuous), a Visual Camera (does not provide the temperature reading) or using Thermocouples (regular failure or loss of connections).

The dedicated software provides key measurement data including data points, areas of interest, automated alarms and importantly long term data trending.
