Facility will provide battery technologies for electric and hybrid electric vehicles
Johnson Matthey Battery Systems Automotive has relocated its manufacturing to Milton Keynes, further boosting the Buckinghamshire town’s reputation as a hub for automotive technology.
The Precedent House facility will provide battery technologies for electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The site will bring together the company’s engineering, electrochemistry and battery development manufacturing, including prototype assembly and low-volume battery-pack production.
The new facilities are scalable, to meet the company’s growth plan for the next few years, which involves increasing its workforce, including its engineering department – the largest team in its organisation.
Meanwhile, Johnson Matthey said it expects its battery division to make a profit for the first time in 2016. The company has spent more than £100 million on battery technology acquisitions since 2012.
