Mexcellence Day at University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka

Student participation in MechBot Challenge

Mexcellence Day 2018, organised by Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Students’ Society, IMechE Ruhuna Student Chapter and Marvel Crew Innovation Club was held on 9​ December 2018 at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka.

The event was created to highlight the talents and creativity of mechanical and manufacturing engineering students in designing and developing engineering solutions for practical problems.

Mexellence Day was split into five competitions with all the winners awarded certificates and cash prizes:

  • Robotic challenge: Mobile robot game, 12 groups participated

    Student participation in CadVortex

  • CADVortex: This event is organised in order to develop and motivate the design skill of mechanical engineering undergraduates. Sixty (60) students have participated in both games in two stages.

    MechBot Challenge Winners

  • PLC master competition:The task was to design and simulate a PLC solution for an industrial process. Ten groups participated in this event.
  • MechBot challenge: For this game competitions (teams formed out of first year students who just completed the first semester studies) had to use pure mechanical techniques to build up their robot. This event was participated by 16 groups.

Over 200 students actively participated inthe competitions. Present on the day were:

  • Dr. Chandana Perera, Dean - Faculty of Engineering
  • Dr. Sumith Baduge, Head of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
  • Eng. Chanaka Wanniarachchi, President of IMechE Sri Lanka Group
  • Dr. J.R. Gamage, Young Members Chair- IMechE Sri Lanka Group
  • Dr. U.I.K. Galappapththi, Student Counsellor of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Students’ Society
  • Dr. K.J.C. Kumara, Chapter Counsellor IMechE-Ruhuna Chapter
all of who along with the academic staff contributed to the success of the event.

 

The event was collectively sponsored by IMechE- Sri Lanka Group, Atlas Axilia Pvt Ltd, EPIC Engineering, and CADD Centre, Galle, Sri Lanka.
