Member presence in Kuwait goes from strength to strength

Mary Weeks

In recent years member activity in the Middle East has risen notably. Here we talk with Institution member Naiel Al-Enazi, one of the Institution’s representatives in Kuwait, who tells us about recent exciting events here.

Institution member Naiel Al-Enazi, one of the Institution’s representatives in Kuwait, recently oversaw the organisation of Green Camp and World Engineering Day on 5 December, in collaboration with the Kuwait Society of Engineers.

Naiel, who works as a sales engineer at the Al Nisf Switchgear Plant, is doing all he can to raise the profile of the Institution in Kuwait, and he was recognised for his hard work in organising the opening ceremony of Green Camp, and for the Institution’s participation at the event.

Naiel said,

“It was an honour for the Institution in Kuwait to be awarded a trophy by the Kuwait Society of Engineers (KSE). It was given by Sheikh Salman Al-hamoud Al-Sabah, Minister of Information and Minster of State for Youth Affairs.”

Naiel explained that camping is becoming a popular past time during the winter season in Kuwait but that most of the country’s camp sites are not environmentally friendly. In many cases, discarded waste is not recycled correctly and diesel, used for generators, causes pollution.

After consultation, KSE built the first Green Camp here in 2012, a 7,500 square-metre site using solar energy and recyclable materials. It is intended that this will become a prototype for similar sites.

Naiel was in charge of the exhibition at the Green Camp for two days on behalf of the Institution in Kuwait, and he co-ordinated the attendance of four other volunteer groups. He felt that taking part in the event helped him to engage with many young engineers, who can really benefit from networking with others in their industry.

He and his colleagues are working hard to raise the profile of the Institution and to strengthen links between members, aiming to represent mechanical engineers at all stages of their careers, including professional registration. They anticipate working jointly with KSE on more projects in the future.

Naiel commented:

“Being a member of the Institution has allowed me to become part of a network of engineers who share the same goal of increasing our engineering knowledge base and helping others develop their careers. I highly recommend membership to young engineers in order to benefit from the Institution’s support and guidance throughout their working lives.”
