A gala ceremony has marked the official opening of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers Student Chapter at the Manipal University, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Marking another milestone for the Manipal University, the new student chapter was launched on 27th November 2016 in the presence of IMechE International Business Development Manager Mr. Tom Owen, UAE Representative Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Nakhi and Dr. S.K. Pandey, Chairperson, School of Engineering & I.T. Manipal University, Dubai.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by 200 audience guests, including all the Mechanical Engineering students, Head of Departments and Faculty. The event started with a welcome note from the Chairperson of the School, Dr. S.K. Pandey who welcomed the invited.
Manipal University, Mechanical Engineering Coordinator Dr. Shivamurthy Basavana gave an inspired opening speech which announced the plan to conduct an IMechE events & competition in the campus from December 2016 onwards.
IMechE International Business Development Manager Mr. Tom Owen unveiled a plaque and made a speech about IMechE importance and its benefits with detailed presentation. Following his presentation, Mr. Tom Owen & Mohammed Al Nakhi officially launched the student chapter in MUD by presenting the certificate of launch to the Chapter Chair Aashish Salian.
IMechE Country Representative for the UAE Mohammed Al Nakhi made a speech, saying: ‘The UAE Chapter of the IMechE looks forward to receiving more Affiliate Members from among the students at the MUD’. He explained how IMechE provides technical events and industrial training to the IMechE members in UAE.
The participation certificates for the Speak Out For Engineering, SofE Competition UAE HEAT 2016 were also awarded at the same event.
Aashish Salian, chair of the IMechE Student Chapter remarked that the student group had been positively received by students. “We aim to help engineering students realize their full potential and make the most of their engineering careers. The Chapter Network also provides a great opportunity to interact with engineers in other institutions and in the industry,” he said.
Dr. Rajiv Selvam, Academic Liaison Officer (ALO) of the chapter noted that the students have many events planned over the next year, including technical competitions and challenges, seminars, workshops, industrial visits, public welfare projects and social events.
The program was concluded with the presentation of a token of appreciation by the Student Chapter Secretary Md.Tasinumul Hassan to IMechE International Business Development Manager Mr. Tom Owen, UAE representatives Mohammed AlNakhi and Aaqib Raza.
