Talent Retention Solution (TRS) is designed to help engineers link up to companies looking for engineering skills

A web-based system aimed at redeploying engineers at risk of losing their jobs has been launched with the support of big companies from the industry.

The Talent Retention Solution (TRS) is designed to help engineers facing redundancy link up to companies that are looking for engineering skills. The system is backed by companies such as Rolls-Royce and WS Atkins.

Richard Smith, from the TRS team, said: “It’s tough out there. And we want to help ensure that engineers who are made redundant are proactively and quickly redeployed.

“This is about enhancing and maintaining the skills base in the UK. We cannot afford to lose people with vital engineering skills from the workplace.”

Stephen Tetlow, chief executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said the TRS would help ensure the UK had the right skills to enable it to prosper. “This tool will help link up those who have found themselves facing redundancy with top employers around the country who are desperately looking to recruit engineers,” he said.

Engineers who are affected by redundancy can register on the confidential web-based system, which is free to use, where they can be seen by potential recruiters, and can see vacancies at top employers.

Employers of all sizes are being encouraged to register on the site.
