Carmaker is performing well in a competitive market as UK sales are up by 21% for this year so far

Jaguar Land Rover has announced strong sales growth in key markets, including the UK, for the first 10 months of 2012.

The news comes just three weeks before JLR's chief engineer, Bob Joyce, is due to speak at the National Automotive Conference about opportunities and challenges for the UK industry. This major event for the industry, bringing together speakers from many of the top-name companies, will be held on 4 December at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire.

The carmaker reported 25,176 global vehicle sales for October, an increase of 10% from a year ago.

The two Jaguar and Land Rover brands retailed 294,291 vehicles in the first 10 months of 2012, an increase of 35% compared to the same period in 2011.

In the UK, JLR reported a healthy 21% growth in sales for the first 10 months of 2012.

Other markets performed well too, with sales in North America up by 15%, Europe up by 41%, Asia Pacific up by 38% and China up by a staggering 78%.

Sales director Phil Popham said: “We have seen a strong sales performance across both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands in the first 10 months of this year.

“During a very competitive year for premium car sales, and in an increasingly uncertain economic environment, I am delighted to see strong demand for our products and that we are still performing well across all our key markets.”

In the past two years JLR has created thousands of jobs at its Castle Bromwich, Solihull and Halewood plants to support its ambitious growth plans.

The company moved to three shifts at the Halewood and Solihull plants during the first half of the financial year to meet the increased demand for its products globally.
