The Institution of Mechanical Engineer’s Past President Prof Isobel Pollock was this weekend appointed an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to engineering.
Prof Pollock was the Institution’s 127th President and is only the second female President in the Institution’s 167 year history.
Prof Pollock said:
“I am delighted and honoured to be granted an OBE for my services to mechanical engineering, a sector I feel so passionate about.
“Engineering lies at the heart of a successful and vibrant society, and I am committed to continue my work to encourage this vital sector.”
During her tenure as President, Prof Pollock represented the Institution at the United Nations in New York on the topic of food security and nutrition. Previous to becoming President she was also the founding Chair of the Institution’s Engineering Heritage Committee.
Pollock is a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Engineering and Design at the University of Leeds School of Engineering. She is also chair of the Steering Board for the National Measurement Office based in Teddington.
She has senior engineering management experience with global companies, including ICI, DuPont, Robert McBride and Beatson Clark. She developed multi-discipline management and engineering skills in chemicals, metal handling, glassware, food, drinks and pharmaceuticals.
As a consultant, she supports a range of SME clients particularly focusing on training in project management, problem solving and team work, auditing and risk assessments, safety and environmental standards, quality management and customer care systems.
