The Institution's Stephen Tetlow welcomes plans and says he is hopeful it will lead to a more efficient and effective system to promote STEM subjects.
Stephen Tetlow MBE, Chief Executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said in response to plans to merge STEM Learning Ltd and STEMNET:
“As sponsors of both STEM Learning Ltd and STEMNET, the Institution welcomes plans for their merger. We are hopeful it will lead to a more efficient and effective system to ensuring schools and colleges have the support they need to promote Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects. Working together will not only help ease confusion about the myriad of different STEM outreach and training schemes, but will also give the STEM community a more powerful voice in inspiring the scientists and engineers of tomorrow.
“The spotlight should now be shone on those other organisations trying to do good work in this space to encourage them also to join this new team, cut out duplication, and ensure that more resource is directed to enhance STEM engagement with pupils and teachers in our schools and colleges.”
