The Institution’s President, Patrick Kniveton, has been listed on the Debrett’s/Sunday Times top 500 influential list.
The List, which aims to compile the most significant individuals and institutions in the country, noted 20 engineering individuals and organisations, including notable names such as Sir James Dyson, Neville Jackson, Professor Dame Julia King and Richard Parry-Jones.
Over the last few years, the Institution has focussed resource to develop and increase its media and political profile, with 2013 achieving the highest coverage to date. In the media, our work on reports such as the global food waste, comment on subjects as varied as nuclear energy and the North West Spain rail crash in July 2013, our Bloodhound SSC sponsorship, and the growth of our flagship event Formula Student has helped make the Institution the most media profiled engineering institution in the UK. Furthermore, our political activity with Downing Street, BIS and DECC throughout the year, especially in the areas of apprenticeships and STEM outreach has not gone unnoticed. Indeed, the Institution was even invited to the United Nations to discuss our global food waste report.
The Debrett list aims not only to name well known celebrities or politicians in its list but also key influential people and organisations that many Sunday Times readers may not know, but whose decisions and opinions have a direct effect on our society.
