Innovate UK has launched a raft of new funding opportunities through the Energy Catalyst and Industrial Biotechnology Catalyst.
About £34 million is available from the Industrial Biotechnology Catalyst to develop new products and services, covering processing and production of materials, chemicals and bioenergy through sustainable exploitation of biological resources.
The Catalyst is run by Innovate UK, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
Businesses are also able to apply for a share of £10 million from the Energy Catalyst for projects addressing challenges in the energy sector: reducing emissions, improving security of supply, and reducing cost.
The Energy Catalyst is run by Innovate UK, the EPSRC, and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC).
Innovate UK also has up to £3 million available for feasibility studies led by small or micro businesses into innovative projects in: advanced materials, biosciences, electronics, sensors and photonics, and information and communication technology.

Meanwhile, Innovate UK has awarded Marlow Foods and Advanced Microwave Technologies (AMT) a grant to support for a major two-year project which aims to reduce energy usage and water consumption in food production.
The project aims to streamline the processing of Quorn products and reduce the consumption of both water and energy by applying the patented technology of AMT.
Advanced Microwave Technologies (AMT), based in Edinburgh has developed a method of delivering microwave energy deeply and evenly into the entire volume of flowing liquids, a technique which is now known as Microwave Volumetric Heating (MVH).
The project will also investigate the interaction of microwaves with viscous food materials.
