The Institution's India Branch carried out an Industrial visit at Escorts Limted's Farmtrac division and Railway equipment division on 3 April 2016 for mechanical engineering students from of Delhi Technological University, SRM University and Dronacharya College of Engineering. The group was headed by Mr. Ravi Kochak, Chairman of the India Branch and Mr. Anshul Singla, Young Member Representative, Southern Asia Region.

The main objective behind the visit was to make students aware about how various activities related to manufacturing process and assembly line are carried out in company and give them feel of industry. The company was situated at Faridabad, Haryana. The students were given an orientation of company by the heads of production department about history and current industry practices at their company.

The students were told about their method of achieving world-class excellence through TPM methodology that how TPM is a language of transformation which enables them to move towards perfection. After the shop floor visit, the group had lunch at the Managers’ Canteen in the plant.

Following lunch, the group visited the railway equipment division. The CEO of Escorts Railway equipment Mr. Dipankar Ghosh gave the brief introduction of the products being made for railways and metro trains in India and abroad. The group then went on to see the complete railway equipment plant followed by questions by students to the shop floor manager.

It is rightly said that 'see and know' is better than ‘read and learn’. Students have got real feel of company’s working after this visit. They got a chance to transfer their theoretical knowledge to practical implication. This will even help students to understand subject matter clearly in future also.

Anshul Singla remarked: "I think the young engineers are really enthusiastic about how things work, how the assembly line looks like and how the technology has changed manufacturing sector in the past few years. The industrial visit gave them an insight about the assembly line and the experience looking at the real machines".
