IMechE’s COVID-19 Infection Control training regarded a success

Institution News Team

Aiming to create safer working environments following the COVID-19 pandemic, the course was facilitated by experts from IMechE’s COVID-19 Task Force.

COVID-19 Infection Control for Engineers took place from 26 to 29 July and was facilitated by a panel of four industry experts, including Professor Catherine Noakes OBE, who has been involved in the COVID-19 response since April 2020 leading the Environment and Modelling sub-group of the UK Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE).

The course was attended by over 60 people and covered topics such as the latest best practice in relation to infection control science and the transmission of the COVID-19 virus, including environmental factors, effect of vaccination, influence of human behavioural characteristics, current best practice, engineering interventions and risk assessment methodology; with the aim to demonstrate to those responsible for indoor environments how we can live more safely with the pandemic as it changes over the next period of its evolution.

Here’s feedback from some of the delegates:

“Very useful and informative. It is nice to get unbiased scientific information explained well.” -- Amal Makki - RDG

“All aspects of the course were useful and I feel better informed and supported now to make the changes necessary to create a safer workplace for increasing numbers of returning staff.” -- Dave Hay - University of York

“I found course very informative. It shows that 18 months in there is still a lot of work to do to control COVID-19 and engineering solutions are vitally important to aide with human controls.” -- Kevin Lovie - Richard Irvin FM Ltd

Due to popular demand, IMechE will be running COVID-19 Infection Control for Engineers one last time this October, so don’t miss your opportunity to take part.
