News and views from the IMechE
The Institution of Engineering and Technology is in the final stages of a feasibility project for a comprehensive refurbishment of its Savoy Place headquarters. So it requires a temporary HQ, including a full complement of members’ facilities, between mid-2013 and mid-2015.
IMechE would be pleased to provide this accommodation in One Birdcage Walk, enabling the IET to retain a London presence and maintain its level of service to members. The arrangement would include shared library facilities, a members’ business centre and a new lounge for members. This latter improvement would be of real benefit to IMechE members, offering an enhanced facility over and above what is currently available to them.
The IET and IMechE would maintain their current volume of meetings, lectures and events together at One Birdcage Walk. Temporary co-location would allow closer working on activities such as accreditation, policy advice, education and events.
IMechE president Professor Isobel Pollock and IET president Professor Andy Hopper said: “Between us we represent some 250,000 professional engineers and technicians around the world. This temporary co-location is seen by both of our organisations as a major opportunity for our two leading engineering institutions to pursue closer working in the interests of the profession.”
