IMechE Malaysia Branch Annual General Meeting 2022

IMechE Malaysia Branch held its 22nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 28 March 2022. For second time, the AGM was conducted virtually via Zoom online platform, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia. The AGM was well attended with 60 members present.

The Branch Chairman of session 2021/2022, Ir. Chow opened the meeting, welcoming the members and the IMechE South East Asia Business Development Manager, Mr. Zen Teng. He expressed his appreciation to the branch main committee members, the branch Young Members Section (YMS) committee members and the internal auditors for their hard works and contributions throughout the past one year. The 2021/2022 Chairman also thanked the members for their support rendered to the branch so far.

The meeting agenda included:

• Approval of the minutes of previous AGM
• Chairman’s report
• Young Member Section report
• Honorary Treasurer’s report
• Election of Office Bearers for the IMechE Malaysia Branch
• Election of Honorary Internal Auditor
• Discussion of other IMechE related business

It was reported that the Malaysia Branch has actively organised close to 40 webinars during 2021/2022. A wide spectrum of speakers from academia and industries were invited to share their knowledge and experiences. The talks did not only greatly benefit the local members, but also other South East Asia branches including Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines as invitations were extended to these branches.

Through the co-operation and coordination between the branch committee members and Zen, many membership drives were also conducted throughout the past year. Despite the downside in which Malaysians generally suffered income reduction for the past 2-year pandemic, the branch still managed to gain an increase in membership. The total paying members as at the end of 2021 was about 6% higher that the reported number at the end of 2020.

The elected Chairman of session 2022/2023, Ir. Dr. Aidil thanked the members for the support given to him and the incoming committee members. He wishes to enhance the technical and professional development of the branch members, foster closer networking relationships and bring the branch to greater heights.
