Aristotle Racing Team from the University of Thessalonkiki
The IMechE Greece Group has held its Formula Student (FS) event with five teams competing at the track in Afidnes, near Athens.
The competition, which was held at the end of October, featured presentations by the teams on their participation in international events, their plans for future cars and their aims for next year's racing.
The teams also exchanged their views on technical issues and impressed all attending guests with the performance of the cars on the track under difficult weather conditions.


Presentations were given at the Greece Group Formula Student event
Chronis Panagio, the Greece Group chairman, said that the Formula Student event was a "great success", with more than 80 people at the event that was covered by local media in the form of "4 Wheels" magazine and Alpha TV.
Panagio said: "The formula cars demonstrated their driving agility under difficult weather conditions showing that the future belongs to this new generation of engineers."
The UoP Racing Team from the University of Patras were crowned overall winners of the FS event, gaining first position in all events, as well as the special design prize provided by the IMechE.
The team were the first Greek FS team to be established. Founded in 2002, and supported throughout the years by the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation and Professor George Chryssolouris, UoP Racing team member’s have designed, developed, and manufactured a racing car that competes at the FS series around the globe.
Highlights for UoP include an overall Class 1 win (FS Czech 2014) and winning two times in Class 2 (FS 2003 and 2006), gaining the first position in all events, as well as the special design prize provided by the IMechE.
Aristotle Racing Team from the University of Thessalonkiki won 3rd place with their business plan presentation and in the endurance and fuel efficiency category for their single-seated race car design.
Other entries came from Centaurus Racing Team, from the University of Thessaly, PROM Racing Team from the National Technical University of Athens and the Aristurtle team from Aristotle University.
The Greece Group has said it will continue to support and promote Formula Student "with all the available means the FS community in Greece" and will collaborate with the teams in order to establish the event as an annual meeting of the Greek FS teams.
