Dr Alice Bunn OBE will step down as Chief Executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) at the end of September 2025, having led the organisation since July 2021.

During her tenure, Alice has overseen a period of significant progress. She has helped to establish a clear strategic direction, strengthen our financial position following the divestment of subsidiaries, and enhance the Institution’s external presence. She has also been a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion, ensuring that the engineering community continues to welcome and develop talent from all backgrounds.

From 1 October 2025, Jo Passingham, currently Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO, will serve as Acting Chief Executive. Jo will continue to lead the Institution towards delivering our strategy and 2030 vision to become a global, inclusive and digitally enabled engineering community.

Matt Garside, IMechE’s 140th President and Chair of Trustees, said:
“On behalf of the Trustees, I would like to thank Alice for her important contributions to our Institution and for her tireless efforts to advance our commitment to improving the world through engineering. We wish her well in the future.”

Dr Alice Bunn OBE, Chief Executive, said:
“It has been an honour to serve as Chief Executive of the Institution. I am proud of the progress we have made in strengthening our strategy and external impact, and I have greatly valued working with such committed colleagues, volunteers and partners. I hope my enduring legacy will be an open and more inclusive culture, where everyone feels welcome, because that is how we will secure a thriving future for the Institution. I wish the Institution every success in the years ahead.”
