Turbine engineers' institution is working to establish a new registration partnership
The Institution of Diesel and Gas Turbine Engineers (IDGTE) has clarified the circumstances behind the loss of its licence.
The Engineering Council issued a statement last week confirming that the IDGTE licence had been revoked with immediate effect due to “a number of concerns".
The decision means that the IDGTE can no longer assess members for inclusion on the national register of professional engineers and technicians.
IDGTE has now formalised a response. It said: “IDGTE wishes to clarify that the concerns referred to by Engineering Council relate principally to IDGTE’s failure to deliver the forecast volume of registrants since its EngTech licence was granted in 2010 and also to its failure to complete certain improvement actions and notifications within the specified timescale.
“IDGTE emphasises that it remains committed to encouraging and supporting young and developing engineers through its company technician scheme and to continuing to provide a route to registration for its present EngTech registrants and future applicants. To this end IDGTE is working with Engineering Council to establish a registration partnership with another PEI.”
IDGTE said that current Engineering Technicians could be confident of the continuity of their registration and, for any further clarification, should contact IDGTE at its Bedford office on 01234 214340 by email at enquiries@idgte.org.
IDGTE was established in 1913 as the Diesel Engine Users Association and currently has 437 members. Its overseas membership extends to individuals in more than 30 countries.
