HS2 will give UK £15bn boost

PE

If anyone should doubt the truth of this claim, they only have to look to Japan

HS2 is promoted as giving the British economy a £15 billion boost, and if anyone should doubt the truth of this claim, they only have to look to Japan.

For, in spite of all its problems, Japan remains the third largest economy in the world and continues to maintain a healthy balance in its current account.

And, almost 50 years since the World’s first high speed trains started running between Tokyo and Osaka, the Shinkansen network in Japan continues to expand.

The Financing, Local Development and Economic Growth associated with the expansion of high speed rail services – with specific reference to expansion north from Tokyo to Sapporo are described in a paper entitled: Japan Railways Successful Financing Models presented by Masashi Hiraishi, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in India, in March 2009.
