As a leader, you are the driving force behind your team. You are the one who stretches them to reach their full potential as a group whilst working hard to bring out the best in each individual.

Never has it been more important than now to step up and be the leader you know you can be, shepherding your organisation through today’s uncertain climate and emerging strong whilst achieving your personal, business and career goals.

One of the key areas you can do this is through coaching, something outstanding managers are well aware of. The benefits of coaching for high performance for your team member include:

  • Improving an individual's productivity by stretching them towards targets and goals.
  • Increasing openness to personal and professional development.
  • Helping to identify solutions to specific work-related issues.
  • Taking greater ownership and responsibility.
  • Developing self-awareness.
  • Higher levels of motivation and engagement.

Coaching, as opposed to mentoring, has a clear goal, and set time frame. Some of the key skills required of a good coach are:

  1. Asking relevant, targeted, and considered questions and high-level listening skills.
  2. The ability to hold the big picture as well as the detail in mind, to guide the conversation in the right direction.
  3. Adopting a positive approach: helping both parties respond and react in a way that fosters positive change.
  4. Generating personal responsibility and ownership: avoiding giving direct advice or offering your own solution. Instead, supporting the coachee to find and take action on their own insights and responses.

Using the GROW model with your coachee provides a proven and structured framework which builds accountability, confidence and promotes personalised development whilst reducing overwhelm.
