Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines on Friday, has affected over 9 million people. At least 10,000 people are estimated to have died and hundreds of thousands have been left homeless.
RedR’s role in this emergency
The Institution supports the work of RedR. Over the last five years RedR has been training aid agencies, humanitarian coordinators, and civil authorities in the skills they need to be prepared for a disaster such as this. This includes members of the Philippine government who are now coordinating the emergency response. Though devastating for a very significant number of people, the impact of the storm has been more limited than if disaster resilience had not been a focus for the country in the last ten years. RedR trained individuals, aid agencies and RedR Members are responding today to this devastating event, supported by the charity's technical support service and member services.
Your support has been essential in helping RedR prepare the humanitarian community for this disaster. Thank you.
