FS2024: LTS Quick Start Guide

Formula Student Team

Whether you're a seasoned veteran or first time competitor, here's a quick guide on how to get stuck into the LTS event.

  1. Familiarise yourself with the competition ruleset
  2. Register your team for the IPG Automotive Formula CarMaker Program
  3. Request your 4 free CarMaker licences
  4. If your University has multiple teams, please let IPG Automotive know by sending a list of members of each team to formulacarmaker@ipg-automotive.com. This ensures the correct members are added to the right teams.
  5. Access the customer area to download CarMaker using the log in details you received by email from IPG Automotive when you registered for Formula CarMaker licences.
  6. Explore the customer area and download the Formula CarMaker package.
  7. Open the package and load the FS_LTS_2024 folder in CarMaker 12.0.01; this is where you will find all the test runs to get you started.
  8. Now it's time to create your winning vehicle; to do that start by creating an IPG Webtools account
  9. In VVB build a vehicle and download it
  10. Unzip your vehicle and copy the contents of the VehicleFiles into your CarMaker project
  11. You are now ready to start developing and runnning your vehicle!
  12. As you identify new optimal setups using CarMaker- Upload the new data parameters (eg spring stiffness) to your team's NGD (Non Geometric Data - an online database where all virtual vehicle data can be stored and easily viewed by each team member)
  13. Easily Build new vehicles with the data uploaded in NGD using VVB (Virtual Vehicle Build - your virtual vehicle garage where you can build and store as many vehicle versions and variations as you like)
  14. Take part in the Q&A LTS webinars, these will be run by IPG Automotive throughout the competition..

For detailed instructions please refer to the left tab within the NGD Management (NGD) & Virtual Vehicle Build (VVB):

    • ‘Documentation’ (NGD & VVB explanation)
    • ‘LTS Documentation’ (Lap Time Simulation Competition Instructions)

Don’t forget to use the IPG Forum to ask all your questions and make good use of the expertise on offer.

Finally, be sure to view all the Formula CarMaker support videos on YouTube
